I’m torn about posting this studio visit.  The paintings are so fresh and good that I want to show them RIGHT NOW, but Nellie is still developing the body of work and I have to wait until next summer, so I want to keep them secret…But no, they’re really just too good, so here you go:

A few years ago Nellie and I had a chat about what would/ could come next for her.  After a career that has moved from emerging into mid, a series of stunning and well reviewed solo shows, Nellie knew she was ready to step back, re-access and move forward.    She’s actually moved sideways and her work has taken on an autobiographical, content-rich, tighter form.  While the paintings still look like Nellie King Solomons–large-scale works on mylar–they require a closer look.  Whereas most of Nellie’s work wants to be taken in all at once these new paintings are detail-ridden parts that make a whole.  More next summer, but for now…
